Acclaimed translator and author Samar Mahfouz Barraj will lead a masterclass on translating literature into Arabic, looking at the wide range of potential genres and topics, and covering both adult and children’s literature. The session will focus on the key skills needed to bring the narrative to life in a different language while retaining its authenticity and cultural context and will include practical examples and key tips for translators.

Samar Mahfouz Barraj is the author and translator of more than 40 books, many of which have been shortlisted for awards around the Middle East, and winner of the Beirut International Book Fair children’s prize with My Grandmother Will Always Remember Me and the Arab Thought Foundation’s Kitabi prize for When My Friend Got Sick.
