Deema Al Alami is an author and the founder of Oh The Books, an online community for parents, caregivers, and teachers on how to nurture the love for reading in children and families. The group now has over 20,000 members since it started in 2017. Al Alami offers workshops on nurturing literacy, children’s book recommendations, and teaches a master’s course on publishing children’s books.
Al Alami is an author of Arabic children’s books herself. She has also co-authored two books which sold over 1000 copies instantly. She is credited for co-authoring the first Arabic book promoting child’s body safety for 0-5 years old.
Her career in the field of education spans over 16 years where she has held important positions in the UAE, Jordan, and Lebanon. As the youngest VP at GEMS Education in Dubai, she led eﬀorts in bridging international best practices in education and local Arab culture. She started her career as a classroom teacher in Languages, Art, and Science and has also spent significant time working on national and regional education-related capacity-building programs in both the private and public sectors.
She has led Education Reform projects in the MENA region for renowned agencies including the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and Ministries of Education across the Arab region. She is also the co-founder of Al-= Alami Book Club which has over 700+ members.
Al Alami has a BA in Elementary Education from the American University of Beirut and a MA in Education from King's College London. She practices yoga to keep herself active and healthy.
