Following the prize giving, Festival favourite Rachel will take us on a side-splitting storytelling adventure with her third tale about Louie, the showstopping unicorn who leaves his idyllic life in Story Land for the somewhat grimier charms of New York, where he enrols at the School of Performing Arts and begins his journey to become a legend of the stage! What misadventures are in store next for the eternally optimistic Louie? This is the place to find out!

The Taaleem Poetry Award celebrates young poets, and for this year’s prize giving we are joined by Carnegie Award-winning children’s author and poet Kevin Crossley-Holland, speaking about the ancient journeys of history, myth and legend.

Tender Hands

Noura Al Khoori’s picture book The Tender Hands tells the powerful story of Majd and his family, who are displaced by war but find hope through ‘tender hands’ – the people who come together to build a new home for the struggling refugees.

In this workshop, Noura will read from the book before leading the group in arts and crafts activities, making paper hands on which they can write good deeds they plan to do, and a display board where they can pin the hands.

The tutor: Noura Al Khoori is the author of popular picture books Fanteer the Fluffy Flamingo and Golden Dates. She has also been involved in writing short stories for animated films and apps and is one of the scriptwriters for the Arabic version of Sesame Street, Iftah Ya Simsim.
