85 years: Crossing the Desert in the Shadow of Bertram Thomas

Authors: Mark Evans

“Here literally was Arabia Felix.”– Bertam Thomas

Author and explorer Mark Evans has a longstanding love of Arabia and seeks to promote cultural understanding through challenging outdoor activities. In 2015, he embarked on one of the most challenging journeys of all– an attempt to cross the Rub Al Khali, following the route of famed explorerand anthropologist Bertram Thomas.

With the journey now complete, and the book, Crossing The Empty Quarter, due out in November 2016 by Gilgamesh Publishing (ready for LitFest 2017!), Mark will share with us the amazing story of the first ever crossing of the biggest sand desert on Earth that took place in 1930/1931, from Salalah in Oman, to Doha in Qatar.
