How will we write about the crimes of the future? Chris Brookmyre has written about murder, virtual reality and cyber-crime with one of his novels even being transformed into a video game. He’s joined in this discussion by master of metafiction Jasper Fforde, whose thriller Early Riser is set in a world where most humans hibernate through a long cold winter. And will spy thrillers change to reflect the times? Charles Cumming was approached for recruitment by the MI6 just after university, an experience that inspired his first novel, A Spy by Nature, and was one of the team working on the second spin-off series of John Le Carre’s The Night Manager. Come and hear how real and fictional thrills will meet or diverge in the future, and how facts and fantasy can address this in different ways.
