Session No: 31
Curious about camel racing?
For the second time at EAFL Aditi Belame Kumar will talk about the growth of UAE’s camel industry, particularly camel racing, which has preserved the sacred status of the animal in the country.
The session will open with a short film on camel racing featuring Faraj Bin Hamoodah—a first generation Emirati dubbed by many as ‘the camel whisperer’—produced especially for the Lit Fest by Wouter Kingma, a world-renowned photographer and videographer. His images fill the pages of the coffee table book Ḥumr An-Naʿam, Treasure of the Desert that reclaims the desert’s forgotten and neglected titan. Aditi will be joined by her father Dr B. N. Kumar for a special Q&A about camels and his work with them for the last 30+ years.
