The colour spectrum can be a useful tool for fiction writers, particularly in the world of science fiction, fantasy and dystopia. Telling us about the different ways it can have an impact on world-building and plot development are three authors who definitely had colour in mind when writing their novels: Victoria Aveyard, author of the Red Queen series about a world divided into those who have red or silver blood, joins Pierce Brown, author of the sci-fi Red Rising series about a color-coded society on Mars, and Jasper Fforde, author of dystopian novel Shades of Grey who presents a world where social class depends on a person’s ability to see colour.
