Date/Time: Thursday 3 February 2022 19:00-20:00

Venue: Al Joud Ballroom 2, Hilton, Al Habtoor City

Language: English

Session No: 83

What can fiction add to the fabric of our personal histories that cold, hard facts cannot?

HE Omar GhobashM, is the Assistant Minister for Culture and Public Diplomacy at the UAE's Foreign Ministry and author of Letters to a Young Muslim. While his first book is a manifesto of letters to his son on how to maintain true to one’s faith as a Muslim while navigating modern life, his latest book addresses another important member of his family: his late father, the UAE diplomat Saif Ghobash, who died tragically in 1977.

Come and hear one of the Emirates’ most engaging speakers as he discusses finding his voice as a novelist, and the challenges of writing a fictionalised account of his father’s last day.

Simultaneous Translation is available for this session. Festival attendees can access simultaneous translation via a QR code shared on-site by using their own personal headphones and smartphone.
