Session No. 41

...well, according to these international authors, anyway!

What are the books you read growing up that you still love to this day? Join this trip down memory lane as these four writers revisit the books that shaped them and the stories they went on to tell. Returning to titles both familiar and surprising, the authors will share the stories that stayed with them – and may even conjure some nostalgia for your own favourites!

Ben Miller is an actor, director, comedian and author of five fiction books for children, as well as It’s Not Rocket Science and The Aliens are Coming! for adults. He has appeared in many hit TV series, including Bridgerton, Death in Paradise, and Professor T. Erin Entrada Kelly is a New York Times-bestselling author who won the Newbury Medal for Hello, Universe. She is a professor of children’s literature at Rosemont College and a winner of the Asian/Pacific American Award for Literature.

Fumio Obata is a Tokyo-born illustrator and comic book author who studied Illustration at Glasgow School of Art and visual communication at Royal College of Art in London. He illustrated the graphic novel, The Garden, and wrote and illustrated the acclaimed graphic novel Just So Happens.

S.K. Ali is is the author of Saints and Misfits, and Love from A to Z. Both award-winning novels were named best YA books of the year by various media including Entertainment Weekly and Kirkus Reviews. The much anticipated follow up, Misfit in Love, was published Summer 2021.

This panel will be chaired by Ali Sparkes, the award-winning author of the Shapeshifter series and other wonderful books for young people. The final book in her most recent fantasy adventure – Night Forever – reaches its heart-stopping conclusion at the top of Dubai’s Burj Khalifa.
