Jessica Moxham: The Cracks That Let the Light In
Date/Time: Saturday 5 February 2022 10:00-11:00
Venue: Chia, Hilton, Al Habtoor City
Language: English
Session No: 40
‘This is a book about what happened when it felt like my life had fallen apart and how I put it back together. It’s about family, love and how to be happy despite your life turning out nothing like you planned.’ – Jessica Moxham
When Jessica Moxham’s son Ben was born, she soon found that his disability would require her to learn a whole new way of living to look after his unique needs and help him thrive. It also led her to start her blog ‘Son Stories’, through which she shares Ben’s story and gives a platform to other parents of disabled children, and eventually to write The Cracks That Let the Light In, a memoir of her life so far with Ben and the rest of their family.
This session will be valuable to all parents but especially those whose children are facing their own challenges – a chance to compare notes and show solidarity with disabled people everywhere.
Jessica Moxham is an architect and writer living in London. In addition to her book and blog she has given lectures to health professionals on her family's experience, spoken on BBC Radio 5 Live and written for the Guardian.
