Venue: Arfaj, Hilton, Al Habtoor City

Session No: 153

Do you devour books about the dark side? Like your novels dripping with gore?

We cut right to the heart of what makes a good horror story with prolific master of the genre, Stephen Graham Jones, with his latest best seller, My Heart is a Chainsaw, an homage to slasher films that also manages to defy and transcend the genre.

A story of murder in small-town America, it’s also a biting critique of American colonialism, Indigenous displacement, gentrification, and a heart-breaking portrait of a broken young girl who uses horror movies to cope with the horror of her own life.

Jones, a Blackfeet Native American, swept the boards at last year’s horror fiction awards with his terrifying tale about a spirit out for revenge, The Only Good Indians, taking both the Bram Stoker and Shirley Jackson awards for best horror novel. He talks about his life and work and the art of writing cut-throat prose.
