Behind devastation and disaster, whether natural or socio-economic, there will always be deeply human stories that need to be told. But writing about these lived experiences requires enormous care, understanding and honesty, and can be challenging both for the people involved and for the authors tackling the issues. Join television journalist and reporter Barkha Dutt, debut novelist Jo Wroe and disaster expert Lucy Easthope as they explore the human stories behind the news stories that inform their work. This panel explores how they approach research on disasters and crises; the impact of telling those stories; and how to report and craft fiction around contentious issues while remaining true to the people affected by them.
This session is moderated by Julia Wheeler
