Book Sales in the Age of Social Media: Huda Hamed & Sami Al Batati
Date/Time: Friday 3 February 2023 10:30-11:20
Session No: 36
Today’s writers and publishers have mastered the hashtag game and understand the critical role that social media plays in boosting book sales, highlighting literary style, and promoting authors.
A YouTube channel can also have a significant impact on publishing, marketing, and sales. Tiktok, Instagram, and Facebook did not previously have such a large impact on the publishing industry and book marketing.
What are the publishers’ counter-strategies to this shift? What are the responsibilities of content creators? How will these changes and opportunities benefit the writer? Is it true that the media and literature have never been closer in terms of impact and influence ?
Listen to our social media-savvy panel Sami Al Batati and Huda Hamed as they examine the impact of social media on the publishing industry.
Huda Hamed is an award-winning Omani journalist, author and editor in-chief of Nazwa Magazine. She has written five novels, various short story collections, and essays. Her most recent novel, They Don’t Remember in Majaz, was published in 2022.
This session is moderated by Rola Nader Al Banna
