Cricket in Pakistan is not merely a sport, it is a source of national identity and pride; it is a passion bordering on hysteria, especially when the match is against India. In his book, Cricket in Pakistan: Nation, Identity and Politics, Dr Ali Khan examines how cricket profoundly influences culture, politics and society in Pakistan, and in turn, is influenced by these social and political factors. Join us for a fascinating conversation that explores how sport, culture, politics, identity, and international relations in Pakistan can be understood through the unique lens of cricket.
Dr Ali Khan is Associate Professor of Anthropology and Dean of the Mushtaq Ahmad Gurmani School of Humanities and Social Sciences at LUMS. He has an MPhil and a PhD in Social Anthropology from Cambridge University. Prior to joining LUMS, Khan spent over 10 years working for the World Bank and the International Labour Organisation.
