Join internationally acclaimed musicians Mariela Shaker and Riyad Nicolas for a magical night where lyrical Arabic compositions meet classical Western harmonies. Give in to the musical fusion that can bring the world together, and spread messages of peace, beauty and hope.

Mariela Shaker is a Syrian American internationally award-winning violinist and motivational keynote speaker. She is the founder and director of Highams Park Music Academy in London. Former President Barack Obama named her a Champion of Change for World Refugees and honoured her at the White House in 2015. On the invitation of the International Rescue Committee, she performed for Her Majesty Queen Rania of Jordan. In 2017, Mariela was appointed UNHCR High Profile Supporter and was also honoured with the Anne Frank Promise Keeper Award in New York City.

Riyad Nicolas is a Syrian British pianist who is considered to be one of the most exciting young artists to emerge from the Middle East. He has performed numerous solos, concerts and with orchestras in prestigious venues including the Royal Albert Hall, the Barbican, St. James’s Piccadilly, Cadogan Hall, Chicago Cultural Center and the Damascus Opera House. Through music Riyad has been promoting peace and raising awareness for the plight of the Syrian people, performing for many organisations such as UNHCR, the International Rescue Committee, the Arab British Centre, Said and Asfari Foundation. Nicolas is also a keen chamber music player, and has performed regularly in duos with violin and flute, collaborating with artists including the flautist Wissam Boustany and the violinist Levon Cilingirian.

As you plan your day at the Festival, please take into consideration that it takes between 30-60 mins to commute between the Intercontinental, Festival City and Mohammed Bin Rashid Library.
