Marina Mahathir: The Apple & the Tree

Date/Time: Friday 3 February 2023 17:30-18:30

Venue: Al Riwaq I, InterContinental, Dubai Festival City

Language: English

Session No: 187

Malaysian socio-political activist Marina Mahathir has earned international acclaim for challenging the status quo and championing the rights of the oppressed – but how easy is it to tell the truth in a political and media environment that serves vested interests and regularly ignores or misrepresents critics?

Her recent memoir The Apple and the Tree is a nuanced and insightful account of how she found her own path growing up with a famous father – the renowned politician and twice-PM Dr Mahathir. In this hard-hitting conversation with Hafsa Lodi, she discusses her journey towards becoming a journalist and campaigner who has tackled corruption, human trafficking, and the rights of those who are discriminated against.

This session is moderated by Hafsa Lodi

As you plan your day at the Festival, please take into consideration that it takes between 30-60 mins to commute between the Intercontinental, Festival City and Mohammed Bin Rashid Library.
