Poetry for the Palate: Dr Afra Atiq & Danabelle Gutierrez

Date/Time: Sunday 5 February 2023 11:30-12:30

Venue: Al Riwaq I, InterContinental, Dubai Festival City

Language: English

Session No: 199

Join Dr Afra Atiq and Danabelle Gutierrez for a deliciously lyrical session that will tingle all five of your senses. Watch these two poets cooking their favourite dishes and reading beautiful poetry together. Let’s savour the meal they create the same way we savour their stanzas.

Dr Afra Atiq is an Emirati poet, scholar and teaching artist. As the founding member of Untitled Chapters, she has spent the last decade at the intersection of education and culture in various capacities. Dr Atiq writes and performs in a blend of English, Arabic, and French, exploring a broad range of topics including heritage, culture, identity, and legacy. She has been awarded for her poetry and has been featured on stages across the world, from Expo 2020 Dubai to London Book Fair.

Danabelle Gutierrez is a multi-award-winning artist, writer, actress and photographer. She is the author of & Until the Dreams Come and I Long To Be The River and chapbooks Eventually, The River Surrenders and Softer. Born in Las Piñas, raised in Cairo, Vienna, and Muscat, Gutierrez’s current work is centred on identity and its relation to locus and the concept of home which, for the past two decades, has been Dubai where she lives, loves and writes.

This session is moderated by Hessa AlMehairi
