Venue: Al Baraha I, InterContinental, Dubai Festival City

Session No: 101
There is a global consensus, famously known as the 30x30, that we should aim to conserve 30% of land and ocean by 2030 to secure the biodiversity of our planet and prevent mass species extinction. There has also been much discussion surrounding the overwhelming amount of microplastics and chemicals contaminating the planet on a global scale, disrupting its natural balance. Marine conservation is crucial not only for the survival of marine species but also for the wellbeing of humans, and the world at large.
Join our impressive panel of environmental experts and conservationists as they unpack the threats underwater and how they impact marine conservation frameworks. Discussing the current state of the ocean and how various pollutants affect it, they will explore how the physical, chemical, and biological components of our oceans are being changed and reshaped, to the severe detriment of our larger environment. They will also discuss what sustainable solutions and strategies we can adopt at a macro-scale to support marine conservation.
Barbara Lang-Lenton is the Director of Aquarium at Jumeirah Group’s flagship Burj Al Arab Jumeirah, where she oversees aquarium management and leads on all activities at the Dubai Turtle Rehabilitation Programme. She is also part of Jumeirah Sustainability Committee and Subject Matter Expert in Biodiversity and Environmental Management for Dubai Holding.
