Tishani Doshi and Avni Doshi have both explored, in fiction, the impact of South Asian women leaving their marriages in search of change; both their characters are taken to destinations they had never imagined. Listen to the Doshis (related only in their talent for writing), explore the processes and challenges of writing powerful and intense stories about women that draw on their South Asian heritage, and bring new and distinctive voices to the literary world.

Tishani Doshi’s poetry collection Girls Are Coming Out of the Woods was shortlisted for the Ted Hughes Award and her novel Small Days and Nights was shortlisted for the RSL Ondaatje Prize and a New York Times Bestsellers Editor’s Choice.

Avni Doshi is the author of Burnt Sugar, which was shortlisted for the 2020 Booker Prize and is being translated into more than 20 languages. Born in New Jersey and is currently based in Dubai, she won the 2013 Tibor Jones South Asia Prize and a Charles Pick Fellowship at the University of East Anglia in 2014.

As you plan your day at the Festival, please take into consideration that it takes between 30-60 mins to commute between the Intercontinental, Festival City and Mohammed Bin Rashid Library.
