Lieutenant General Sir Simon Vincent Mayall had a long and distinguished career in the Middle East as a British Army officer who served with the Sultan of Oman’s forces, took part in the liberation of Kuwait, and helped to establish the Royal Navy base in Bahrain. He is also a historian with deep knowledge of the region. In his book Soldier in the Sand: A Personal History of the Modern Middle East, Sir Mayall draws on his experiences to help the interested layperson understand the complexities of the region’s history and how it has shaped the modern Arab states.
Sir Mayall is an authoritative and much in-demand speaker – this is an invaluable chance to learn more about the region.
