Toby Gregory: Arabian Ocean Rowing Team
Date/Time: Thursday 2 February 2023 09:30-10:15
Venue: Al Amwaj II, InterContinental, Dubai Festival City
Language: English
Session No: 237
Learn how – and why – someone would row across the Atlantic Ocean in this one-of-a-kind talk.
Ultra-endurance athlete Toby Gregory and his three teammates have been preparing for months for a huge test of physical and mental endurance, which will commence in December 2022. On the open ocean in an eight-metre rowing boat, the team will make an unsupported journey from La Gomera in the Canary Islands to English Harbour in Antigua. At the time of the programme going to press we have no idea how this journey will go – the talk will be a revelation to us all!
The LitFest has never had an event quite like this – when Toby joins us the journey’s trials and triumphs will be fresh in his mind, and he will be one of the few people to have ever taken this journey: more people have travelled to space than rowed across the Atlantic. What will he have learned from his time at sea? Join us to find out.
This session is moderated by Naouel Chaoui
As you plan your day at the Festival, please take into consideration that it takes between 30-60 mins to commute between the Intercontinental, Festival City and Mohammed Bin Rashid Library.
