The UAE is well known for its successes in promoting women’s leadership in politics and business, but this barely scratches the surface of Emirati women’s achievements in all walks of life. The full story is even more exciting: Emirati women are shattering every glass ceiling they can find and reshaping spaces such as hospitality, sport and entertainment while breaking records in their chosen fields and – crucially – lifting up others around them for the benefit of all.
Amna Al Haddad is a pioneering Emirati weightlifter who contributed to the country’s Rio 2016 Olympics Qualification and who now promotes mental health and women’s empowerment in sport.
Hamda Taryam is a groundbreaking Emirati drag racer who gained further fame competing on the hit Netflix racing reality show The Fastest.
Sahar Parham Al Awadhi is the first and only Emirati pastry chef in the region, part of the Burj Al Arab’s busy and endlessly creative kitchen team.
Simultaneous Translation is available for this session. Festival attendees can access simultaneous translation via a QR code shared on-site by using their own personal headphones and smartphone.
