Every year thousands of new crime thrillers are published – fresh victims for hungry readers of the genre who just can’t seem to get enough. Surely there are only so many ways to kill off characters, and leave detectives scrambling for answers…or are there? Join four masters of the genre as they discuss the balancing act of surprising readers with crime capers while still weaving in key conventions of the genre.

Felicia Yap is the multi-talented author of the speculative literary thrillers Future Perfect and Yesterday. Future Perfect is a murder mystery set in a near-future Britain where computers can predict how we live and when we will die.

Lucy Foley is the No.1 Sunday Times bestselling author of The Hunting Party and The Guest List (a Reese’s Book Club choice), with over a million copies sold worldwide. Her thrillers have also been shortlisted for the Crime & Thriller Book of the Year Award at the British Book Awards.

Mark Billingham is the author of both standalone thrillers and the bestselling detective Tom Thorne series. He has won numerous awards for his work including the Sherlock Award for Best Detective Created by a British Author.

Polly Phillips is the author of debut novel My Best Friend’s Murder which was published to great acclaim in 2021 after entering and winning the Montegrappa Writing Prize at the Emirates Airline Festival of Literature in 2019. Her follow-up novel The Reunion, is set to be published in July 2021. Polly will be appearing virtually.
