Ashraf Al Ashmawi

VectorAshraf Al Ashmawi is an Egyptian writer and judge. Prior to becoming Chief Judge of the Criminal Court of Cairo, Ashraf served as a criminal investigator in the Public Prosecution Office for 17 years, and was assigned a legal advisor to the Ministry of Antiquities for bilateral international agreements and the recovery of smuggled antiquities. Al Ashmawi published nine novels, most notably Toya, The Guide, The Barman, The Shepherd's Dogs, The Lady of Zamalek, and The Coptic House. He has also published nonfiction books including Legitimate Thefts: Thefts of Egyptian Antiquities which was translated to German. The Barman was translated to English, French and Serbian, Toya was translated to Japanese and Italian, and The Lady of Zamalek was translated into English. His latest novel, Orphanelli’s Auction House, was published by Al-Masreya Al-Lubnaneya publishing house.
