The book is an honest and objective look at class, privilege, women's lack of rights, colourism, and infrastructure in Pakistan. In addition, a book of translations from Urdu of pioneering feminist fiction writer Hijab Imtiaz is forthcoming in 2022. Akhtar's fiction and translated works from Urdu have appeared in Words Without Borders and The Fortnightly Review among others.
